Bournemouth Town Centre BID steps up graffiti removal across town centre

Bournemouth Town Centre BID has significantly increased its graffiti removal activity across Bournemouth town centre as part of ongoing efforts to keep the area clean, welcoming and supportive for local businesses.

In 2025, a total of 359 graffiti sites were cleared across the town centre, averaging around 30 locations each month. However, the start of 2026 has already seen a notable rise in activity. In January alone, 65 graffiti sites were removed, more than double the usual monthly rate.

A graffiti site can range from a small tag on a doorway or shopfront to larger areas such as alleyways or walls that require specialist cleaning.

The BID employs a specialist cleaning team who attend the town centre every month, focusing specifically on properties belonging to levy-paying businesses. Over the past year the team has removed hundreds of areas of graffiti, ranging from small tags to more extensive wall coverage.

Graffiti removal is not simply cosmetic. By consistently addressing tagging, including markings sometimes linked to anti-social behaviour, the BID aims to disrupt repeat vandalism, deter further damage and help ensure Bournemouth town centre looks and feels welcoming for residents, visitors and businesses.

Maintaining a clean and well-kept environment also plays an important role in public confidence. For retailers and hospitality venues operating in a challenging climate, visible signs of neglect can quickly affect perceptions and footfall.

The graffiti removal programme focuses directly on supporting BID levy payers. While some assets such as utility boxes or residential buildings fall under the responsibility of other organisations or property owners, these are not always addressed quickly. By contrast, the BID works directly with businesses to ensure graffiti affecting their premises can be removed promptly and professionally.

Levy payers who discover graffiti on their property are encouraged to contact the BID by emailing info@towncentrebid.co.uk with a photograph, business name, address and what3words location where possible. The specialist team will then arrange removal.
