Coffee Break Briefing: Companies House Reforms

Companies House is going through a big shake-up in how it receives and records information on companies registered in England and Wales.

erhaps the biggest recent change is the need for company directors to prove their identity to Companies House.  That started on 18 November 2025 and the plan is for all directors to have done that within 12 months.

The next big change is currently scheduled for ‘Spring 2026’.  It will require ‘agents’ who file documents at Companies House to prove their identity.  It looks like this will potentially catch both insolvency practitioners, and their firms.  It also looks as if this will come into effect on a single date, rather than being phased in.

In the space of 30 minutes, starting at 10.30 am on Monday 12 January 2026, Malcolm will cover these points:

  • The changes that have already come into effect;
  • Future changes;
  • What you, and your firm, might consider doing to prepare for the changes; and
  • Opportunities for the insolvency profession.  (I will try to end on a positive note!)

You can record 30-minutes of verifiable CPD for each Coffee Break Briefing you attend and it's completely FREE!
