Your Total Guide To business

International Women’s Day: Meet Elysia, Relationships and Events Manager at Total Business Network

In this International Women’s Day feature, Elysia shares more about her career journey, the experiences that have shaped her confidence, and why supporting and uplifting other women matters more than ever.

Passionate about bringing people together, Elysia plays a key role in building meaningful connections across the Total Business Network community. Through thoughtfully curated events and strong relationship management, she helps create spaces where businesses can meet, collaborate and grow.

Tell us a little bit about yourself...

Hi, I’m Elysia and I work for Total Business Network. When I’m not busy doing that, you’ll usually find me chasing a bit of fresh air, whether that’s skiing down a mountain, heading out for a run, or stretching my legs along the beautiful beaches and forests of Dorset, where I live with my partner. I’m happiest outdoors, especially with a sea breeze or a canopy of trees overhead. I also love getting stuck into a good book, experimenting in the kitchen (with varying degrees of success!), and playing 70s classics, because let’s be honest, they just don’t make music like that anymore.

Tell us about your business or career and what you do...

As Relationships and Events Manager at Total Business Network, I’m all about connecting people. I nurture relationships within our network and design and deliver events that not only run smoothly, but genuinely bring value to the businesses we work with.

What do you love most about what you do?

Seeing people make new connections and opportunities through our events is the part I love most.

What are you most proud of, either in your business, career or personal life?

I’m most proud of the person I’ve grown into. At 26, I finally feel confident in my skills, my knowledge, and the value I bring, both professionally and personally. I lead with empathy in everything I do and consider emotional intelligence one of my greatest strengths, particularly in a role centred around relationships and people.

On a personal level, there are several milestones I’m incredibly proud of. Caring for my grandfather for many years shaped me in ways I’ll always carry with me, teaching me patience, resilience and compassion. I’m proud of earning my degree, completing a ski season, buying my own home, and building a life surrounded by strong relationships and a supportive family. Most of all, I’m proud that I’ve prioritised my health and wellbeing, and that I’ve created a life that feels balanced, fulfilling and true to who I am.

Have you faced any challenges along the way, and how have you navigated them?

I’ve learned to trust myself when facing challenges. Instead of reacting quickly, I take a step back, stay calm, and approach situations thoughtfully. Over time, I’ve realised that most things can be worked through with clarity and composure and that trusting my instincts is often the best guide.

Is there a woman who inspires you, and why?

It’s hard to choose just one woman who inspires me, because I’m constantly inspired by women in so many ways. My mother is a huge inspiration, she’s travelled the world and has always encouraged me to go after anything I dream of, showing me what independence and courage really look like.

I’m also deeply inspired by resilient women everywhere, those who remain strong, opinionated and determined, even in a world that can feel turbulent and uncertain. Especially in times marked by conflict and change, I admire the women who continue to stand up for what they believe in and carve their own paths forward.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you this year?

This year, International Women’s Day feels especially meaningful to me. It’s a moment to recognise strength, not just in headline achievements, but in resilience, empathy and the quiet determination women show every single day. For me, it’s about celebrating the confidence I’ve grown into, the importance of leading with emotional intelligence, and the power of supporting one another.

n a world that can feel unsettled and, at times, challenging for women, IWD is a reminder that our voices matter. It’s about continuing to back ourselves, to stand firm in our beliefs, and to encourage other women to pursue their ambitions unapologetically. It’s both a celebration and a call to keep pushing forward, together.

What advice would you give to your younger self or to other women starting out?

I would tell my younger self to trust her instincts sooner and not shrink herself to make others feel comfortable. Confidence doesn’t arrive overnight, it’s built through experience, mistakes and growth, so be patient with yourself. You are more capable than you think.

To other women starting out, I’d say: back yourself, even before you feel fully ready. Lead with empathy, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to take up space. The world may feel uncertain at times, but your voice, your ideas and your ambition are needed. Keep going and surround yourself with people who lift you higher.
