1. Congratulations on your Christchurch Business Awards win. Which category were you recognised in?

2. What is the history and background of your business?

I started in 2012 offering bookkeeping/tax return services and evolved as the client enquiries came in to offering all accounting services. Over the last few years, I noticed the same complaint from every new customer that came to – they never got to see or speak to their accountant.

I decided to offer a very personable service whereby I work together and alongside my clients, offering ongoing tax planning, business growth and just complete support along their business journey. I am finding that this is invaluable to my clients and I feel so rewarded that I am taking the stress of the financial side of their business completely away.

3. Who is your target market? How do you reach and engage with them?

My target market is ambitious small business owners from all sectors who are invested in their business and not just looking for compliance. They value working closely with their accountant to make sense of the numbers and thereby turn data into decisions. All my clients thus far have come to me via word of mouth and all discussions are in person.

4. What are the biggest challenges you've faced in building your business, and how have you overcome them?

Over time the challenges have changed. At the moment, it’s “never enough time”, I can only do so much etc., so I am busy streamlining my processes to work more effectively. I am also in the process of slowly shifting data entry stuff to an Off Shoring company who I have been working with for a few months.

5. What’s your favourite part about working in Christchurch?

Christchurch first of all is beautiful – I can take a break and go for a walk or a run along the beachfront and instantly find tranquillity. I find there are so many inspiring business owners who are passionate, clever and resilient and most definitely helpful to others.

6. Can you share any lessons learned or advice for aspiring professionals in your industry?

This also changes depending what point of your journey you’re at but most definitely believe in yourself, stay focus, and keep striving forward. My favourite mantra is “Fear or Success – you can’t have both”.

7. What role do you believe local recognition, such as the Christchurch Business Awards, plays for businesses in Dorset?

First of all, it brings like-minded people together which is very inspiring to help keep going. Secondly, it is such a boost for morale and sense of achievement to win an award – it’s encouraging and rewarding and offers networking and partnering opportunities.
