Let's Talk

New Trainees at Frettens
At Frettens, we’re proud of our reputation for developing people. From apprenticeships and placements to our graduate schemes and training contracts, we are committed to creating opportunities that help bright people thrive in their careers.
This month, we are delighted to welcome new faces to the firm and to celebrate the progress of those taking the next steps in their journey with us.
Welcoming new trainees and graduates
Chelsea Jeffs has joined the firm at trainee level, starting in our Wills & Tax Team in Christchurch.
We are also pleased to welcome two new graduates onto our graduate scheme: Louie Good and Saima Zainab, who have joined our Family and Corporate teams.
Both will be working as graduate legal assistants, supporting their departments while gaining hands-on experience before potentially moving on to training contracts next year.
Frettens’ Graduate Scheme
“Three years ago, we completely overhauled our Trainee and Graduate Recruitment Scheme as part of our long-term growth plans.” Says Managing Partner, Matt Fretten.
“It has been great to see the first cohort, who joined us in 2022, complete the scheme and qualify as solicitors this year.
James Privett, Justine Mears and Katelyn Webster have worked exceptionally hard and certainly earned their positions in our Corporate, Employment, and Family Teams. They are going to play an important part in the continued growth of the firm and have set a fantastic example for the trainees following behind them.”
New Trainee Solicitors, Graduates and Placement Students
Speaking of the trainees following behind: Five trainees recently started the first year of their training contracts with us, having spent the last year impressing as Graduate Legal Assistants.
Rhys, Regan, Dom, Hannah and Antoinette join Chelsea and our three second-year trainees, Jack, Rachel and Bethany.
Mannix joined the Employment team as a placement student, hoping to emulate Susie and Isobel, who will both start their training contracts with us next year, once they complete their final year of their degrees at BU.
Frettens’ Academy
All of this activity means the firm now has fourteen people in its academy, all at various stages of our graduate and trainee scheme.
“We’re building a really strong cohort of junior lawyers in our academy.” Says Karen Edwards, who oversees the firm’s trainees with Ben Cobb.
“ ‘Growing our own’ lawyers is an essential part of our growth strategy. The regular academy sessions aim to give them the soft skills and commercial awareness that are essential to complement their legal education.
Having a close-knit group means they’ve been able to support each other throughout their studies and the group have built some great working relationships. The future looks bright.”
