Your Total Guide To business

Entrepreneurial spirit in Dorset is well and truly alive – and a new free event in North Dorset aims to help it grow.
Aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage business owners across Dorset are invited to attend a Start-Up Business Breakfast at Hinton Workspace next month, designed to inspire, inform and support local people at the beginning of their business journey.
Taking place on Thursday 12 March, 08.30–11.00 at Hinton Workspace, Hinton St Mary, the informal morning event is being delivered by business advisory firm Evolve in partnership with Dorset Council. It is open to anyone living in the Dorset Council area who is considering starting a business, or who is within their first three years of trading.
The aim of the breakfast event is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where founders can connect with like-minded people, hear honest experiences from local business owners, and gain practical insight into funding, networks and support available to them locally.
At the heart of the event will be a panel discussion featuring local business owners who have successfully launched and grown their own businesses in Dorset. The discussion will be hosted by Becky Phillips, Business Advisor at Evolve, and will explore the realities of starting out – including the challenges faced, opportunities identified and lessons learned along the way.
Becky Phillips, Business Advisor at Evolve, said: “Starting a business is an exciting step, but it can also feel overwhelming. These breakfast events are about creating a supportive and encouraging space where people can connect, ask questions and hear genuine experiences from those who have been through those early stages themselves.
“There is so much entrepreneurial talent across Dorset, and by working in partnership with Dorset Council we’re able to ensure founders know what support is available locally and feel confident taking their next steps.”
The Start Up Business Breakfast is ideal for people exploring a new business idea, founders in their first three years of trading, and anyone looking to connect with others on a similar journey. It’s free to attend, thanks to funding from Dorset Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, but places are limited and advance registration is required.
