Lawson in the points but Pirates narrowly beaten at Berwick

A late rally from Poole Pirates proved not enough as they were edged out 46-44 at Berwick on Saturday.

Poole found themselves training by 10 after eight heats at Shielfield Park after former Pirate Sam Hagon recorded his second win of the night.

And despite a score of 15+2 from Richard Lawson’s six rides, Poole were left to ponder their first league defeat of the season.

Peter Kildemand (11) top scored for Berwick with Hagon (9+2) also doing considerable damage.

Lewis Kerr (10) and Anders Rowe (8) attempted to support Lawson, but Poole were left to ponder a narrow loss.

Kerr said: “It was a bit disappointing not to get the league points, we had a few things we could look back at.

“Some of the boys had some mechanicals and crashes which made it a tough night but at least we can now look forward to the second leg and get the bonus."

Next up for Pirates is a trip to Plymouth on Saturday (7pm).
