Bowes battling to be fit for start of Poole Pirates' season
New Poole Pirates signing Fraser Bowes faces a race against time to be fit for the start of the British season.
The 24-year-old has suffered a broken scapula (shoulder blade) while competing in the Jason Lyons Trophy at Mildura down under.
Speaking to fans via the Pirates website, the Aussie said: “Obviously breaking my scapula last weekend was really disappointing, especially so close to the [British] season, but I'm staying positive.
“Right now it's a waiting process and then I can fully focus on my recovery once the bone knits. I'll be doing everything possible to be ready for the first match in April and to be back riding at 100 per cent for Poole.”
Promoter Danny Ford added: “We will be following Fraser's recovery closely but as things stand there is no need to panic right now.
“We send Fraser our best wishes for a speedy recovery. He is really keen to join us this season and is doing the best he can to make that happen.”
Meanwhile, Poole have been drawn against Scunthorpe Scorpions in the preliminary round of this season’s Knockout Cup, as they look to defend that crown.
The winners of that tie will face Oxford Cheetahs in the last eight.
