Classy Cairns off to super start with Poole Pirates

Rising star Will Cairns announced himself at Poole Pirates with an impressive debut at Wimborne Road.

The talented teenager, signed by the club over the winter, turned 16 on Sunday, making him eligible to ride in the SGB Championship.

And in his first meeting in the skull and crossbones, Cairns delivered with aplomb.

He totalled 8+1 from his four rides, including two race wins in a 57-33 win over Glasgow.

Richard Lawson starred with a 15-point maximum, but it was Cairns who set tongues wagging after his impressive display and show of emotion after his first heat win.

The youngster said: “Ever since press and practice I was like ‘this is where I want to be’.

“I love the track and I just feel welcome.”

Victory extended to four points Poole’s lead over Glasgow in the division.

Speaking about Cairns ahead of the meeting, promoter Danny Ford said: “Of course there is a considerable amount of interest in young Will joining us, but we must remember that, talented as he is, we will need him to settle into the new challenges."
