Skipper Cook happy with six-point lead in play-off semi-final
Poole Pirates skipper Zach Cook insisted the fight is on to reach the SGB Championship play-off final, as his side were pushed all the way by Redcar.
Richard Lawson once again starred at number one for the Pirates with a 15-point maximum, but Poole had to battle for a 48-42 victory on home shale at Wimborne Road.
That means they take a six-point advantage to the ECCO Arena on Sunday October 5th, with the two-legged tie very much in the balance.
Cook, who scored 8+1 from five rides, said: “Everyone was working hard in the pits and there were no complaints.
“Redcar are a solid team and they thought they had it there for a minute and it didn't look good. So, to have these six points, we can be happy with that and we will just have to go there now and fight them at Redcar."
Lewis Kerr (9+1) and Anders Rowe (9) also chipped in considerably for Poole, while former Pirates skipper Danny King (9) top-scored for the visitors.
Pirates are back in action away from home in the Knockout Cup semi-final second leg against Oxford Cheetahs this evening (Wednesday). They hold a 26-point advantage.
