Terras strike twice to retain Dorset Senior Cup crown

Goals from Tom Bearwish and Kieran Douglas ensured Weymouth retained the Dorset Senior Cup, after a 2-0 victory over Dorchester Town.

The Terras, who beat Hamworthy Recreation to lift the trophy last season, defended their crown to land a record-breaking 33rd Senior Cup victory.

Bearwish’s brilliant first-half strike set the ball rolling for Jamie Wells’s side before a towering header from Douglas on 78 minutes ensured the cup would once again be heading to the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras started the contest brightly at the Avenue, having almost taken the lead inside the opening three minutes.

Skipper Bearwish let fly with a fizzing effort from around 30 yards out which whistled just over the bar.

Dorchester keeper Lucas Phillips then did well to deny Ben Moss on the follow-up as part of a smart double save, but there was nothing he could do moments later as Weymouth took the lead.

Having already had a sighter, Bearwish sent a blistering strike from the edge of the box which flew into the back of the net.

Former Eastleigh man Bearwish continued to cause problems. He met a low centre from the right played in by Stephanos Stavrianos and fired just wide of the left-hand post.

The Magpies’ first real opportunity came in first-half stoppage time. On-loan AFC Bournemouth winger George Chubinidze did well down the left before his cross was only half-cleared. The ball fell to Jaydn Crosbie, who failed to keep down his effort at goal.

The Terras almost doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half. Striker Brandon Goodship, brought on at half-time, drew a sharp reaction save from keeper Phillips diving to his left.

Searching for a leveller, Dorchester’s Wayne Robinson ran on to a precise, clipped through ball, only for his effort to be denied by onrushing Terras keeper Harry Dillon.

At the other end, Weymouth frontman Tor Swann was denied by a diving Phillips at full stretch, before Weymouth doubled their advantage.

From the resulting corner, Douglas planted a header into the back of the net after rising highest above his marker.

And Wells’s side saw the game out comfortably to ensure they retained their crown.
