Pirates produce solid team performance to tame Tigers

Poole Pirates picked up a valuable SGB Championship victory after they overcame Glasgow Tigers 47-43 at Ashfield.

The visitors put in a solid team display to topple the Tigers on their own shale for the first time in the league this season.

Former Pirates star Chris Harris recorded a superb 17 points from six rides for Glasgow.

But Richard Lawson (9+1), Anders Rowe (9), Lewis Kerr (9) and Tobias Thomsen (8+1) helped Poole take the spoils.

Reserve Paul Starke, who scored a valuable 6+1 at reserve, said: “What a night and it is great for us all, especially Havvy (team manager Gary Havelock).

“If there is any place you want to come to and win then it is Glasgow, for sure.

“I must admit I struggled a bit mid-meeting. I was using a new engine and was kind of wrestling with trying to get it dialled in, but it all came good in the end."

Poole’s scheduled league clash against Workington the next day was called off due to rain.

Pirates are next in action against Redcar Bears in the Championship at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (7.30pm).
