Havvy happy as Pirates prevail at Edinburgh

Team boss Gary Havelock admitted he was “over the moon” after Poole Pirates sealed a 48-42 victory over Edinburgh on Friday night.

Richard Lawson (13) and Anders Rowe (11+1) both reached double figures, as well as teaming up for a 5-1 in a last heat decider at Armadale.

The Monarchs were boosted by a dazzling performance from Victor Palovaara at reserve, the Swede having scored 19 from his seven rides.

Assessing the meeting as a whole, former world champion Havelock, who takes charge of Poole's northern away meetings, said: "I'm over the moon. It was a fabulous performance especially when they have a free-flowing reserve like they have.

"It's always difficult when you have a strong reserve. Don't get me wrong, I think we got at least three or four slices of luck which you don't normally get all in one meeting, but I will take that every day of the week.”

The result means Pirates have sealed back-to-back wins to start their SGB Championship title defence. They make the trip to Berwick this evening.
