Cricket Legends, Community Spirit & Charity at Lashings World XI in Wimborne

Sunshine, Cricket greats, and standout community spirit — Wimborne Cricket Club’s clash with the Lashings World XI on June 27th was far more than a cricket match.

It was an unmissable day of celebration, connection, and charity, proudly sponsored by Frettens Solicitors.

We were thrilled to attend as guests of Frettens, who have become passionate supporters of this unique event. And after a day filled with inspiring moments, it’s easy to see why.

Who Are Lashings World XI?

If you’ve not yet encountered the incredible world of Lashings, they’re no ordinary cricket team. Lashings World XI is made up of former international cricketing icons, with a legacy that includes legends such as Brian Lara, Sir Viv Richards, Richie Richardson, and Gordon Greenidge.

This year’s fixture saw Wimborne CC take on a star-studded Lashings XI, featuring none other than Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, Owais Shah, John Emburey, and captain Chris Schofield. Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the game, this was an extraordinary chance to see world-class cricketing talent up close.

Why Frettens Got Involved

After enjoying the event as guests in 2023, Frettens Solicitors were inspired to do more.

"Firstly, it’s a fantastic event and Lashings are a lovely bunch of people to work with. Secondly, whilst we aren’t based in Wimborne, we have an awful lot of clients and friends in the town, so we wanted to support an event there. And finally, it was a great opportunity to support our charity partners, MYTIME Young Carers" ???????said Mathew Fretten, Managing Partner.

What the Day Looked Like

The day kicked off with junior coaching sessions, followed by a buzzing hospitality lunch for over 260 guests. With gourmet food, drinks, and entertainment flowing, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric — a perfect lead-in to the main event.

The T20 match began at 4pm, drawing a crowd of fans to watch cricketing greats in action. The weather held beautifully, adding to the fun, laid-back vibe that ran throughout the day. The evening closed with a lively presentation ceremony, celebrating both sport and community spirit.

Making a Difference: Supporting MYTIME Young Carers

At the heart of it all was an important cause — raising funds and awareness for MYTIME Young Carers. Lashings events across the years have raised over £1 million for local clubs and charities, and this year’s fixture continued that proud tradition.

MYTIME is a Dorset-based charity supporting the incredible young people who care for family members day in and day out. From memory-making days to vital employability support, MYTIME is transforming lives — and events like this make it all possible.

A Community Celebration

From cricket fans to local businesses, young players to seasoned pros — everyone came together for an unforgettable afternoon. The energy, generosity, and shared love of the game created an atmosphere that truly celebrated everything great about Dorset.
