Super-heat drama as Pirates crowned 2025 SGB Championship champions
Poole Pirates made it two team trophies out of two in 2025 after they defended their SGB Championship crown in the most dramatic of circumstances.
The Wimborne Road outfit sealed a super-heat win over the Glasgow Tigers in Scotland, after the sides were deadlocked 90-90 on aggregate over 30 heats.
The Pirates went into the second leg of the contest at Ashfield with a 12-point advantage.
But after former Poole rider Chris Harris powered his way to a five-ride maximum, Glasgow recorded a 51-39 win over the regulation 15 heats. That set up a one-race shootout to decide the entire league campaign.
And when it really mattered, Poole held their nerve with Richard Lawson and Zach Cook sealing a one-two to spark jubilant Pirates celebrations.
Poole have now claimed the 2025 Knockout Cup, as well as the league crown.
They will also try to add the BSN Series title to their trophy cabinet and record a domestic treble for the second successive season.
They visit Redcar Bears in the first leg of that final tomorrow.
