Rowe records win to scoop cash prize in Blue Riband event at Poole

Blue Riband winner Anders Rowe revealed how he was close to withdrawing from the event, before winning the individual trophy at Wimborne Road.

Rowe totalled 14 points from five rides to take the £3,000 cash prize at the home of Poole Pirates.

He recorded four wins out of five during the 16-rider showcase, only dropping one point to Poole skipper Zach Cook throughout the evening.

Speaking after his victory, Rowe explained: “About 2am this morning on the way back from Glasgow I was ready to pull out as I was feeling pretty lousy.

“I've not felt too good all day, so maybe I should be like that all the time and get the results.

“Winning here tonight feels good and the cash prize will be very useful. It's a long winter for sure and with what I want to be doing next year with my racing it means I have got more money to spend on my equipment."

Richard Lawson (12) was second with four wins, having been disqualified for going through the tapes in heat five after his throttle came loose.

He said: “That was a blow and I saw that other first ride winners were dropping points which was helpful. I was keeping a watch on Anders but he hardly put a foot wrong so well played to him for winning tonight."
