Rowe records maximum as Pirates bounce back with win
Anders Rowe took it to the maximum for Poole Pirates as they returned to winning ways with a 55-35 win at home against Scunthorpe.
The Weymouth-born racer sealed all 15 points from his five rides as Poole started their SGB Championship title defence with a victory over the Scorpions.
Richard Lawson (13+1) also impressed as the Pirates bounced back from their BSN Series defeat to Oxford a week previously.
Speaking to Pirates TV after the clash, Rowe said: “We won the meeting and that’s what counts. It doesn’t matter if I score the maximum or whoever scores the maximum.
“It’s a good feeling but as long as the team wins that’s all that matters.
“From one to seven we all chipped in. Darryl Ritchings, fair play to him, first meeting in. I know he was a bit nervous before.
“We helped him in the pits, he was just struggling off the starts with too much lift. We got that sorted for him, told him to rev it a bit more on the start.
“He had a massive crash but picked himself up and got a point. I know that’s a massive confidence boost for him. Fair play to him, it’s not an easy task in this league but he has taken it in his stride and we all go on to Edinburgh.”
Pirates face Edinburgh on Friday, before a trip to Berwick a day later.
