Starke stars to be crowned Harbour Masters champion at Poole
Poole Pirates reserve Paul Starke was crowned Harbour Masters champion on Wednesday after a 15-point maximum at Wimborne Road.
The experienced racer was a late entrant to the event at Poole, alongside some of the rising stars of the sport in Britain.
His fellow Pirates reserve Darryl Ritchings finished third (13) with ex-Poole racer Vinnie Foord (14) taking second on the podium.
After sealing victory, Starke said: “There sure is some good young talent and it is good to see, knowing that there are riders coming through.
“It’s good to win as I was a bit of a target I guess, but it is exciting to see the youngsters coming on.
“I could hear them behind me and I thought ‘Christ, they’re not hanging around’."
Stake will be looking to maintain his strong form when Poole make the trip to Glasgow on Friday (7.30pm) before remaining up north to take on Workington on Saturday (3pm).
The Pirates then return to Wimborne Road to host Redcar on Wednesday (7.30pm).
