Women’s and Girls’ Football Takes Centre Stage as Dorset Tournament Returns Bigger Than Ever
Women’s and girls’ football in Dorset is set to take another major step forward this summer as the Dorset Football League Women & Girls Tournament returns for its second year - expanded, inclusive and open to clubs across the region.
Following the success of its inaugural women’s-only tournament in 2025, organisers have confirmed the event will return in 2026 with the addition of a new Under 18s girls’ category.
The one-day tournament will take place on Sunday 28 June 2026 at the Dorset County Ground in Hamworthy, Poole, bringing together women’s and girls’ teams from Dorset and neighbouring counties for a celebration of competitive football, community spirit and grassroots development.
Last year’s event attracted teams from across Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset, and organisers are hoping to build on that momentum by welcoming even more clubs this year, from recreational and grassroots teams to more established sides.
Tournament organiser Justyn Roberts said:
“Last year’s tournament showed just how much appetite there is for women’s football locally. Expanding the event to include an Under 18s category felt like a natural next step, giving younger players the chance to be part of something visible, competitive and inspiring. Dorset Football League is fully committed to growing women’s football across the county and is keen to support any club looking to form a women’s team.”
Off the pitch, the day promises a lively, family-friendly atmosphere, with hot and cold refreshments, entertainment and trophies awarded to the winning teams. Matches, results and league tables will be available live throughout the day via the Tournify App, allowing teams and supporters to follow the action in real time.
Alongside the sporting action, organisers are now inviting local businesses to get involved by sponsoring the event and showing their support for the continued growth of women’s and girls’ football in Dorset.
Dorset Football League hope the expanded tournament will continue to shine a spotlight on the rapid growth of women’s and girls’ football in Dorset, encouraging increased participation, visibility and long-term opportunity at all levels of the game.
