Lawson in the points but Pirates sunk at Workington
Fifteen points and four race wins from Richard Lawson proved not enough as Poole Pirates were thumped 51-39 away at Workington.
The Comets, back from their recent BSPL suspension, were always in control of the meeting at the GT Tyres Arena after rattling off three 5-1s during the opening trio of heats.
That meant Lawson was brought in as a tactical substitute for Poole in heat six, taking the chequered flag to start his run of race victories.
But no other Poole rider reached double figures as the league leaders suffered just their second defeat in the SGB Championship this season.
Skipper Zach cook was next best for the Dorset club with eight points from five outings.
Australian Tate Zischke (12+1) top scored for the Comets, while Finnish racer Antti Vuolas (11+1) supported him well in the heat leader berth.
Poole will be looking to bounce back when they host Edinburgh at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (7.30pm).
