Cook: It's fun when you are out in front!
Skipper Zach Cook banged in a 15-point maximum as Poole Pirates returned to the top of the SGB Championship table with a 52-38 victory over Edinburgh.
The Aussie and number one Richard Lawson (11+4) piled on the points as Poole reached the league summit, leapfrogging the Monarchs in the process.
Mitchell Cluff top scored for Edinburgh with 14 points from six rides, but it was Cook who guided his side to an important triumph on home shale.
He told the club website: "Everything's been working well these last couple of weeks and I've been making some good starts. That makes life a whole lot easier and yeah, it's fun when you are out front.
“Edinburgh pushed us from the start and then they threw a tac sub in and that worked so yeah, they will be happy to have pushed as hard as they did.
“Our main agenda was to be able to have a good lead for when we go up there next week, or whenever it is, and everyone did their job.
“The top five did a job and when we do that it takes the pressure off the reserves and we can look back at this as a good result against one of the top clubs."
Poole are next in action when they visit Berwick in the league on Saturday (7pm) before a home meeting against Scunthorpe on Wednesday (7.30pm).
