Now imagine that dream, but with a copper bathtub, a rooftop sauna, and a wood-fired pizza oven.
The Woodman’s Treehouse, one of Dorset’s most unique and luxurious stays is where childhood fantasy meets grown-up indulgence.
Perched in the canopy of a centuries-old oak and nestled deep within an area of outstanding natural beauty, this extraordinary escape blends playful wonder with five-star indulgence. Designed by Guy Mallinson and architect Keith Brownlie of BEaM, the award-winning treehouse is a testament to sustainable craftsmanship and woodland magic.
From the moment you wander down the boardwalk and cross the rope bridge, The Woodman’s Treehouse feels like a hidden gem. The central circular living space is built around a revolving wood burner (yes, really!), with a plush king-sized bed, a hand-crafted kitchen, and even a roll-top copper bath overlooking the treetops.
It's a space that radiates comfort and elegance. Think leather armchairs, thick throws, candlelight, and views in every direction. A glass panel in the floor lets you gaze down at the stream below, while a skylight above brings the moonlight right into the bedroom.
But the magic doesn’t stop indoors. Step outside to your private rooftop sauna and hot tub, surrounded by birdsong and swaying branches. Downstairs, shower beneath the sky in a hot tree-top shower, or fire up the wood-fired pizza oven and modern barbecue for al fresco feasting. There’s even a hammock and a slide down to the forest floor, just in case your inner child is feeling especially playful.
This isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a place to reconnect with nature and yourself. Every detail, from the Nespresso machine to the eco-conscious building design, has been thought through with care, creating a retreat that soothes the soul while sparking the imagination.
Since opening in 2016, The Woodman’s Treehouse has captured the hearts of travel lovers and design enthusiasts, appearing on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and Grand Designs House of the Year, and winning the RIBA South West Award for ‘Small Project of the Year.’
Guests are invited to do as much or as little as they like. Explore the wildflower meadows and woodland trails, stargaze from the hot tub, or take a trip to the nearby Jurassic Coast.
For those looking to try something new, the owners also offer traditional woodland craft courses including spoon carving, chair making and bowl turning.
