REVIEW: The Great Dragon Egg Quest at Kingston Maurward Estate: A Magical Easter Adventure for the Whole Family

If you’re looking for one of the best family days out in Dorset this Easter, The Great Dragon Egg Quest at Kingston Maurward Estate is an absolute must-visit.

We visited on opening day, and it’s safe to say the event has already proven incredibly popular. With over 800 tickets sold for the Easter break so far, and the car park running into overflow, it was clearly in high demand. However, despite the numbers, the experience never felt overcrowded. Thanks to the sheer size and beauty of Kingston Maurward’s estate, there was still plenty of space to explore, enjoy, and soak up the surroundings at a relaxed pace

A Warm Welcome & A Magical Trail

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff who clearly explained how the trail works. The experience begins indoors, where enormous, beautifully decorated dragon eggs set the scene for the adventure ahead.

Children are tasked with following clues to find letters hidden along the trail, making it both interactive and engaging from start to finish.

A Stunning Setting Like No Other

What really sets this event apart is the location. Each dragon egg is carefully placed in some of the estate’s most scenic spots, taking families on a journey through:

• The animal park, where children can see a variety of animals up close
• Stunning lakes and landscaped gardens
• Wide open spaces filled with spring blooms and fresh Dorset air

Driving in alone is worth the visit, with views of sheep and adorable baby lambs surrounded by daffodils – it’s picture-perfect and truly captures the magic of Easter in Dorset.

The Grand Finale: Meet the Dragon

Towards the end of the trail, visitors are treated to a spectacular surprise – a huge dragon that is guaranteed to wow both children and adults alike.

The dragon has “laid” eggs, and this becomes a fun, interactive play area where children can climb, explore and fully immerse themselves in the story. It’s a brilliant finale that really brings the whole experience together.

Food, Drink & Family Fun

There’s plenty to keep everyone fuelled and entertained along the way. We loved the variety of options available, including:

• A mobile pizza van serving delicious, freshly made pizzas
• Hot drinks including fresh coffee
• An ice cream van for a sweet treat
• A marquee hub area with additional food and drink

There’s also a lovely social space with garden games and a bouncy castle, creating a real family-friendly atmosphere.

Play Areas & Extra Value

One of the biggest bonuses is that your ticket also includes access to Kingston Maurward’s indoor and outdoor play areas at the end of the trail, meaning the fun doesn’t have to stop once the quest is complete.

And for children who successfully finish the trail, there’s a fantastic reward – they get to choose a dragon egg to take home. These aren’t your typical giveaway toys either; they’re high-quality, impressive eggs (our girls chose the glow-in-the-dark ones and absolutely loved them).

Incredible Value for Money

At just £25 for a family ticket, this experience offers exceptional value. Considering the length of the trail, the quality of the setup, the entertainment, and the take-home prize, it’s easily one of the best-value Easter activities in Dorset.

Final Thoughts

The Great Dragon Egg Quest is a beautifully thought-out event that combines adventure, nature, and imaginative play in one unforgettable experience. It’s suitable for all ages, incredibly well organised, and set in one of Dorset’s most picturesque locations.

Whether you’re local or visiting the area, this is one Easter event you won’t want to miss.

The Great Dragon Egg Quest is running throughout the Easter holidays and continues until 26th April – but with demand already high, we’d recommend booking soon to avoid disappointment. You can view availablity and book your tickets here.
