REVIEW: Illuminate at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens 2025

If you’re looking for a magical festive family evening this winter, Illuminate at Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens is honestly one of the loveliest light trails we’ve ever been to. We went along for opening night and it completely exceeded our expectations again this year.

The gardens are stunning all year round, but there’s something incredibly special about seeing them transformed with colour, light and music. My absolute favourite part was the shimmering disco ball section – it felt like stepping into a real-life fairy tale. And we loved the new for 2025 Immerse light arch, light show and raindrop parade - there's always a reason to return!

The trail is beautifully laid out, really easy to follow and perfect for kids of all ages. It’s not too long, not too short – just the right amount of walking with plenty to look at, explore and enjoy together as a family.

Once you finish the route, definitely head to the café for a hot drink and a slice of cake. It’s the perfect cosy ending to the evening.
