This year’s Halloween Trail was a total hit with our family; the perfect mix of spooky fun, creativity, and countryside charm.
We began our afternoon at the fantastic on-site Tearoom, warming up with spiced pumpkin lattes while the kids tucked into hot chocolates and face painting. The face painting was brilliant value at just £5 each; the artist was so lovely with the children, letting them choose their own designs before quickly working her magic.
Next, we headed to the pumpkin carving area, another brilliant activity at just £5 per pumpkin. Each family gets their own table, with pens and carving tools provided, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. even offering to store our finished pumpkins while we explored the trail.
The Halloween Trail itself takes you through The Blue Pool’s circular woodland walk, just the right length for children of all ages. While the terrain can be a little tricky for buggies (a baby or child carrier is a better choice), it’s well worth the effort for what lies ahead. Make sure you save enough energy for the fantastic adventure playground at the end of the trail.
Along the way, we came across witches’ cauldrons, eerie haunted graveyards, and creative crime scenes that really captured the children’s imaginations. These weren’t just decorations; each section felt like a mini story, making the whole experience engaging from start to finish.
A real highlight was crossing the new rope bridge which is the longest rope bridge in the UK! It’s a must-do moment for kids (and adults!) and offers incredible views across the shimmering blue waters below.
Despite the Halloween excitement, The Blue Pool has managed to keep the experience peaceful, uncommercial, and in harmony with nature. We visited on a crisp, sunny afternoon, and the colours of the autumn leaves against the bright blue water were absolutely breathtaking.
At the end of the trail, we stopped by the lovely little gift shop, where the friendly staff kept the atmosphere lively with smiles and good banter, a lovely end to a magical day.
With free parking right by the entrance, a beautiful natural setting, and so many thoughtful details, The Blue Pool Halloween Trail is one of Dorset’s must-do family Halloween experiences. Whether you’ve got babies in carriers, adventurous toddlers, or older children ready for spooky fun, it’s perfect for all ages.
The trail is included with normal general admission (£9.50 per adult 16 and over, £6.75 per child age 5 to 15, free to under 5s). It's open from 9.30am to 5pm with last entry at 4pm).
