The Story of Swing: A Big Band Revival Comes to Bournemouth
This September, Bournemouth will swing to the sensational sounds of big band music as The Story of Swing brings an unforgettable celebration of the genre to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre.
Taking place on Sunday, September 7, this dazzling one-night-only event promises a nostalgic journey through the golden eras of swing, jazz, and big band - right through to the modern-day revival of the style.
At the helm is award-winning vocalist and world-class trumpet player Gareth John, whose heartfelt performances and charismatic stage presence have earned him a reputation as one of the finest showmen in the UK. Gareth brings the music to life with a deep passion for the genre, having previously shared the stage with acclaimed acts like The Beautiful South and The Specials.
Joining Gareth is the sensational SOS Big Band, a powerhouse ensemble that brings the rich, brassy energy of classic swing to the forefront. Together, they will perform timeless hits made famous by legends such as Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr, while also paying tribute to contemporary crooners like Michael Bublé, Robbie Williams, Matt Goss, Paul Anka, and Harry Connick Jr.
Adding even more sparkle to the night is special guest Maddie Martin, a London-based jazz vocalist known for her soulful tone and compelling storytelling through song. With her “old soul” voice and expressive stage presence, Maddie adds a fresh yet timeless flair to the evening’s performances.
Tickets for The Story of Swing on Sunday 7 September can be purchased from the Bournemouth Pavilion website.
