Blaze Rebels Taster Session at David Lloyd Poole: Parent & Child Review

There’s something about January that makes you want a reset - but if you’ve got kids, it’s not always easy to find a fitness plan that fits around real life.

That’s why trying the Blaze Rebels taster session at David Lloyd Poole was such a perfect New Year, New You moment for us - because it's for 8+ including parents it's something we could enjoy together.

And the best part? My daughter came out of the session so excited she asked me to book her next class as soon as we left.

What is Blaze at David Lloyd?

Blaze is David Lloyd’s high-energy fitness concept combining cardio, strength, and boxing-style training in a studio-style session. It’s structured, instructor-led and designed to be both effective and fun - meaning you’re never left wondering what to do next.

It’s fast-paced, motivating and genuinely uplifting, which makes it ideal if you’re looking for a January reset that feels achievable.

Blaze Rebels is for children aged 8+ to come along with a parent.

What Happens in the Blaze Rebels Taster Session (Parent + Child)

If your child is interested in joining the Blaze Rebels classes, you have to start with the taster session before starting the full class - it's ideal as it focuses on learning the equipment, the moves and the safety - while still giving you a proper mini workout.

The Blaze Rebels Taster Includes

  • learning the equipment and key moves
  • understanding safety and technique
  • completing 1 x Blaze round together
  • parent and child training in the same lane

During our taster session, the children started on the treadmills while the parents began on the boxing/kickboxing bags - then you rotate. It’s such a smart format because it keeps the children engaged while giving parents a great workout too. And the load music, dark room and flashing lights made it super exciting for the kids (and adults too!).

Do You Need Your Own Gloves?

No - and this is a huge bonus for parents who aren’t sure yet.

You can borrow gloves at the session, so you don’t need to invest in your own kit until you know Blaze is right for you or your child.

Becky Our Instructor Was Brilliant

Our instructor Becky was genuinely fantastic. She was warm and encouraging, explained everything clearly, and managed to keep the kids engaged while also making sure they understood the equipment and safety.

If you’re new to Blaze - or your child is trying it for the first time -having a great instructor makes all the difference.

My 8-Year-Old Loved It

My daughter’s favourite part was the treadmill and she absolutely loved the whole session. She came out beaming and immediately asked me to book her next class.

And after completing the taster, she’s now ready for the full Blaze Rebels class, which is:  2 rounds, of 3 stations - each station lasting 3 minutes. (For adults, Blaze is 3 rounds, so even in a rebels class, both adults and children get a brilliant workout).

Why Blaze is Perfect for New Year Motivation

If you’re searching for a fitness routine that doesn’t feel boring or intimidating, Blaze is a really strong option because it’s:

  • structured and coached
  • high energy without being overwhelming
  • adaptable to your fitness level
  • motivating and fun
  • something you can do as a parent and child

For me, the biggest win is that it turns “fitness” into a shared experience - and that’s much easier to stick to all year round rather than just a new year new you fad.

Rating: ?????
Best for: Parents who want to train alongside their children in a motivating environment and build their childrens confidence in a safe and friendly environment.
Top tip: Borrow gloves first - then invest if you love it!
