What the Trail Involves
At the Visitor Centre you collect your trail pack, and inside you’ll find everything you need: a themed leaflet, stickers, a “magic” reveal lens (for uncovering hidden letters) and other fun bits to keep children fully engaged.
Then you set off on the route (approx. 1.9km long) navigating through the trees, uncovering clues, hidden points and fun stops along the way.
Why We Loved It
The length (1.9 km) is just right for younger children, our 8-year-old and 5-year-old stayed engaged throughout, and yet it didn’t feel like a slog.
The stops along the trail are educational and interactive, not just “Here’s a sign” but more “Here’s a clue, here’s something to spot, find something shiny..." all true to the Stick Man charcters and theme.
We discovered a part of Moors Valley we’d never been through before which gave the walk a fresh feel and made the outing feel extra special.
The trail route winds past one of the excellent wooden playgrounds in the park, so there’s a built-in reward towards the end for when little legs want to burn off a bit of extra energy.
As always, Moors Valley delivers on atmosphere; trees, open space, fresh air, and the trail adds a fun story-driven element that makes it more than just “a walk”.
How It Works for a Family Day
We collected the pack, followed the signs, worked our way through the clues and hidden stops, all the while enjoying the woodland route and fresh air. Afterwards, we relaxed with a playground stop. The Trail adds a structured element to a visit if you’re already going to the park, this gives you a “mission” and a sense of achievement at the end, which children love and our 5 year old loved discovering which sticks she needed to add to the map at each stop and uncovering the hidden letters.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a wholesome outdoorsy outing that offers a little more than the usual stroll, the Stick Man Trail is a wonderful option. It’s affordable, fun, educational, and perfect for families with younger children. Whether you’re regulars at Moors Valley or looking to mix it up a bit, this trail will give your day that extra spark. We hugely enjoyed it and would definitely return.
