Weymouth's biggest retail talking point is nearly here. Marks & Spencer has confirmed that its new store at Weymouth Gateway Retail Park will open on Wednesday 15 July, around six months ahead of the original schedule.
The new store is a full-line M&S, bringing together a fresh market-style food hall, an in-store bakery and a spacious fashion offering, along with home and beauty, all under one roof. It's a noticeably bigger space than the long-standing town centre branch, and M&S says it will give local shoppers a far wider range of its products.
The opening is expected to create around 50 new local jobs, on top of roughly 60 roles transferring from the existing St Mary Street store. Anyone keen to join the team can register their interest through the M&S careers website.
The move out to the retail park marks a big change for a store that's been part of the town centre for decades. With the St Mary Street lease due to expire in 2027, that branch will close once the relocation is complete, but the promise of a bigger, more modern M&S has been widely welcomed.
For now, the focus is on the summer opening. After a build that was handed over to M&S earlier this spring, the Weymouth Gateway store is on track to open its doors on 15 July, just in time for the busy holiday season.
