AFC Bournemouth were beaten at Everton on Saturday

'Bad sensations' for AFC Bournemouth before international break

AFC Bournemouth are still looking for their first Premier League win of the season, following a 3-0 defeat at Everton.

Head coach Andoni Iraola admitted AFC Bournemouth made it “too easy” for Everton to open the scoring in their 3-0 defeat and added: “We are not being solid at the back.”

The Cherries are still looking for their first Premier League victory under the Spanish boss after they were humbled by goals from James Garner, Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure at Goodison Park.

Defeat to Sean Dyche’s Toffees leaves the Dorset club 19th in the top flight ahead of the October international break, with three points accumulated from eight games.

Asked for his emotions after defeat on Merseyside, Iraola told afcbTV: “Obviously very bad sensations because we knew before the game it was a huge game for us.

“We knew the game, it would put us in very different situations and I think especially the first goal we conceded, we gave them a lot of advantage.

“It was key to score first so we would play with more confidence and they would lose a little bit of this momentum.

“But we made (it), especially the first goal, too easy – the goal to concede and it was difficult for us to turn it around.”

He added: “It’s a big mistake. The second goal, okay, we can do more. We can probably defend the first ball better but it’s also a very good goal from Jack Harrison.

“But the first one for me is too easy to concede. It’s key when you are 0-0 and we are conceding these type of goals.”

Everton seized the initiative on eight minutes when a slip from Illia Zabarnyi allowed Garner to run at the Cherries defence and slot past Neto.

The Brazilian keeper was then powerless to keep out Harrison’s lob after twice punching clear. Doucoure added a third when slamming in from close range on the hour mark.

“I think the first step is to become solid as a group,” admitted Iraola.

“To focus for 90 minutes, 100 minutes and make it if they score it has to be because they did something very good.

“We are not being solid at the back.”

Cherries’ next encounter comes against former boss Gary O’Neil and his Wolves side at Vitality Stadium on October 21.
