Brilliant Ben Cook leads the charge as Pirates continue to dominate
Super skipper Ben Cook took it to the maximum for Poole Pirates in their 52-38 success against Scunthorpe in the SGB Championship.
High-flying Poole made light work of the Scorpions at Wimborne Road, with Aussie Cook winning all five of his races to record a 15-point haul.
There were impressive displays from Tom Brennan (11+1) and Richard Lawson (9+2) but Cook was pleased to be named the club’s rider of the night.
He told the club website: "All the boys have been going pretty good this year and so it has been a hard job to get a nomination.
“But that's good because it means everyone is doing their job and some, and I will take that.
“We re-grouped mid-meeting and said we just had to go out there and show them what we can do and I'm pretty sure we did that at the end of the day. We made some starts and away we went."
Pirates’ sparkling run of form sees them cruising at the top of the Championship table, six points head of second-placed Scunthorpe having ridden two fewer meetings.
They make the trip to face the Scorpions in the return leg on Friday (7.30pm).
