Maximum man Lawson helps Pirates tame Tigers

Poole Pirates number one Richard Lawson was delighted to record a flawless maximum against Glasgow – even it would not help his average!

The British star put in a flawless display in leading his team to a 55-35 victory over the Tigers at Wimborne Road.

Lawson, Ben Cook (11+1) and Tom Brennan (10) all reached double figures, although Whitehaven-born Lawson joked he would have settled for some second places behind his teammates.

He told the club website: "Fifteen points is good but it doesn't help the average!

"I don't think these lads know the rules anymore. I try and let them through but hey that's how it was.

“Obviously Glasgow were good and they pushed us early on but it is always good to get one over on them as they are always a formidable team and obviously we owed them a big one so, yeah, it was good to win.”

Pirates will also be boosted by the impressive performance of youngster Vinnie Foord at reserve. He picked up eight points, including two race wins, from his four rides.

Title-chasing Pirates host Scunthorpe Scorpions at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (7.30pm).
