Newman feeling good for Pirates after making return from injury

Pirates reserve Kyle Newman announced his return for the business end of the season by reaching double figures in an emphatic victory over Oxford.

The 34-year-old totalled 10+4 from five rides as Poole thumped the Cheetahs 60-30 at Wimborne Road.

Speaking on his comeback to the line-up after missing the past few weeks with injury, Newman said: "I feel good. I let it go in heat 15 but it is just nice being there.

“I was feeling good on track and I am sure later it is going to hit me in a bit but it was pretty cool.

“Although I have been out I haven't really had much chance to rest up. I spoke with my physio and they said it was just swelling inside and basically told me to get on with it. Told me when I should ride and when I should do other things. So, I followed the advice and it went like a treat."

Skipper Zach Cook 14 top scored for Poole, while Cheetahs number one Sam Masters (14) was also in the points.

Next up for league leaders Pirates is a trip to second-placed Glasgow on Friday (7.30pm).
