Sandbanks, as its name suggests, was created by sand deposited into towering dunes up to 100 feet high by shifting tides. Initially unnamed, it later became known as “Parkstone-on-Sea” before eventually adopting the name “Sandbanks.” In the late Victorian period, the area remained largely uninhabited.
The promenade from Shore Road/Sandbanks to Hengistbury Head stretches around 10 miles and is completely flat, making it ideal for easy, enjoyable cycling. Riders of all ages and abilities can take a leisurely bike ride while soaking up the stunning coastal scenery.
