Minterne House Easter Trail Review 2026: A Magical Spring Family Day Out Near Dorchester

If you’re looking for a wholesome, family-friendly Easter activity in Dorset, the Minterne House Easter Trail is an absolute must-visit this spring. Running until 10th April, this much-loved trail combines stunning gardens, interactive fun for children, and a relaxed day out for adults too.

A Spring Garden in Full Bloom

One of the standout features of Minterne House is, without question, the gardens. During Easter, they are simply breathtaking. With spring blooms bursting into colour at every turn, it’s a truly picturesque setting for a seasonal walk.

The gardens are also beautifully sheltered, making it an ideal choice even on breezy days. We visited when it was quite windy, but once down in the gardens, you wouldn’t have known it. It felt calm, peaceful, and completely immersed in nature.

A Fun and Engaging Easter Trail for Kids

The Easter trail itself is brilliantly done. It’s engaging without being overwhelming, and our children (aged 8 and 5) absolutely loved it. They had so much fun spotting the clues along the route, which kept them entertained the entire way round. It's a really calming and outdoorsy experience that leaves you feeling like you've just had a really wholesome experience.

Halfway through, you’ll find a craft hut, which was a real highlight. Packed with Easter-themed activities, it’s the kind of place kids could happily spend hours. It adds a lovely interactive element to the experience and gives families a chance to slow down and get creative together.

A Generous Easter Goody Bag

On arrival, children are given a thoughtful and generous Easter goody bag, which includes:

  • A wooden Easter decoration or gift
  • Pencils
  • The Easter trail map

And, of course, no Easter trail would be complete without chocolate. At the end, children are rewarded with a Cadbury’s Creme Egg, which was the perfect finishing touch.

A Lovely Café Experience

The terrace café is another big plus. Open from 10am to 4pm, it serves a great selection of light refreshments. We enjoyed excellent coffee and delicious cakes, making it a perfect spot for a well-earned break while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of the day.

Easy Access and Beautiful Setting

Minterne House is conveniently located just 10 minutes from Dorchester, making it an easy addition to your Easter plans. There is free parking opposite the house, followed by a short and scenic walk up the driveway to the gardens, which really adds to the experience.

A Dorset Favourite for Families

Having visited several trails at Minterne over the years, this continues to be one of our favourites. There’s something truly special about it. It feels unspoilt, natural, and wholesome, offering just as much enjoyment for adults as it does for children.

The combination of stunning gardens, thoughtful activities, and a relaxed atmosphere makes this one of the best Easter events in Dorset.

Top Tip: Don’t forget to wear your best Easter bonnet or bunny ears to fully get into the spirit of the trail.
