Brake Van Rides

A limited-availability chance to ride in a 1950s brake van on an engineering/freight train during the Swanage Railway Autumn Steam Gala weekend.

Brake Van Rides offer a chance to travel in a 1950s brake van as part of an engineering train during the Swanage Railway Autumn Steam Gala. Rides may start and finish at different locations, and a gala ticket may be needed for onward travel back to the starting point.

Booking conditions

• Participants must be able to climb up and down from the brake van unaided.

• Minimum age: 16+.

• Participants must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• No seats are provided; the ride is standing throughout.

• Warm clothing is recommended.

• All bookings are final; no refunds.

Ride options (each day)

• 08:48 from Norden to River Frome and south to finish at Swanage (just over 1 hour): £20 (£22 with Gift Aid)

• 15:10 from Swanage to River Frome and return to Swanage (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes): £25 (£27.50 with Gift Aid)

• 17:00 from Swanage to Corfe Castle (around 15 minutes): £10 (£11 with Gift Aid)
