REVIEW: Updated for 2025 Dragons & Fairy Trail at Minterne House - A Summer Holiday Must!
We kicked off the summer holidays with a sprinkle of fairy dust and a dash of dragon fire at the Dragons & Fairy Trail at Minterne House, and it couldn’t have been a more magical way to begin the break.
Running daily from 19th July to 31st August, this enchanting family experience is set within the stunning gardens and woodland of Minterne House. We've been before so I was a little worried that it wouldn't be a hit with them again, yet they were just as enamoured by it and there's actuallly even more sparkle this year. From a brand-new Dragon Alley, to a host of new fairies and hidden surprises, there’s plenty to capture the imaginations of little ones and grown-ups alike. My parents joined us and they loved seeing the excitement as the kids stumbled across each fairy and dragon and and added bonus was being able to enjoy the gardens with the maginificent Hydrangeas in full bloom.
As soon as we stepped onto the trail, we were transported into a world of wonder. The handcrafted willow fairies, fluttering wings and giant dandelions set the tone, and the kids loved spotting the cheeky boggarts, tree stump creatures and even a friendly unicorn or two! The kids were much more into the trail map this year and really enjoyed all of the activities and looking out for all the characters (you can purchase the optional Trail Pack upon entry for just £2.50). It was also super helpful for navigating and added an interactive element with a storybook, colouring-in pages, and a wishing ribbon to leave your mark at the magical Wishing Tree at the end of the trail (it's really sweet seeing the hundreds of ribbons on the tree)
Dragon Alley was definitely the highlight. New for 2025, this immersive addition felt like stepping into a medieval fairytale. The dragons look a little bit fearsome, and the kids were thrilled to walk the gauntlet past them!
After our trail adventure, we headed to the Tea Terrace - which was just as delightful with views of the stunning grounds and a fantastic menu (all home cooked). The kids tucked into pizza slices and ice cream, while we refuelled with an open smoked salmon and avocado sandwich served with salad and new potatoes, along with flaky sausage rolls and a delicious bacon brioche bun. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful too and clearly love working at Minterne (which is no surprise), it's an absolutely wholesome gem. We can't wait to return in the autumn for the Halloween trail.
