Known affectionately by local families as the Pirate Park, the much-loved playground has undergone a major refurbishment and officially reopened on Saturday 20th June. We took our daughter along to join the festivities and were delighted to see so many families enjoying the new space together.
From the moment we arrived, there was a fantastic atmosphere. The Canford Cliffs Land Society had organised face painting, games and entertainment, creating a real community feel as families gathered to explore the upgraded play area for the first time.
The centrepiece of the park remains the iconic pirate ship, now beautifully modernised and ready for a new generation of young adventurers. Around it, children can climb, balance, slide and explore a variety of exciting new features including upgraded climbing frames, rope swings, sensory play equipment and a mini zip-wire.
Our daughter was immediately drawn to the new play equipment and spent ages climbing, exploring and making new friends. It was wonderful to see children of all ages enjoying the space together, whether they were scaling the ship, racing to the slides or testing their balance on the new equipment.
One of the standout features of the refurbishment is its focus on inclusivity and accessibility. New communication panels, accessible pathways and play features designed for younger children ensure that more families can enjoy the park together.
After spending the morning playing pirates, we took a short stroll down to the beach. With the sparkling sea, golden sands and stunning views across Poole Bay, it was the perfect way to round off a lovely family day out.
More than £130,000 has been invested into the refurbishment through funding from the Canford Cliffs Land Society and BCP Council's Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy. The result is a fantastic community asset that will undoubtedly be enjoyed by local families and visitors for many years to come.
If you're looking for a free family activity this summer, Treasure Island Play Area is well worth a visit. Whether your little ones dream of sailing the seven seas, conquering climbing frames or simply making new friends in the sunshine, this newly transformed play park offers plenty of opportunities for adventure.
Top Tip: Pack a bucket and spade and combine your visit with a trip to nearby Canford Cliffs Beach for the ultimate family day out.
We'll certainly be back for more pirate adventures soon!
