I'll admit it, we were a little late to the party with our latest cinema outing (Toy Story 5!)! But with two girls aged nine and six, finding something we can all enjoy together isn't always straightforward.
So, one afternoon, we headed to Vue Poole at Tower Park for a late afternoon screening. Just me and my two girls, with absolutely nothing else on the agenda except enjoying a film, some popcorn and a bit of quality time together.
And what a treat it turned out to be.
Vue Poole: A Cinema Experience That's a Treat for Parents Too
Now, I love taking the girls to the cinema, but sometimes it's more about keeping them entertained than treating myself. Not this time!
We booked an Ultra Lux screening at Vue Poole, and I can say the seats alone made the experience worthwhile.
Think big, comfortable reclining leather chairs, cusions, plenty of space to stretch out and that lovely feeling of being able to properly relax for a couple of hours.
No squeezing into uncomfortable seats or feeling cramped. Just settle back, put your feet up and enjoy the film.
The girls absolutely loved it, but I think I might have loved it even more!
It's amazing what a difference a really comfortable cinema seat makes, particularly when you're watching a longer film.
Popcorn, Sweets and the Full Cinema Experience
We hadn't been to the cinema for a little while, so I decided we were going to make the most of it.
That meant popcorn, sweets and all the little extras that make a trip to the movies feel like a proper occasion.
There's something about walking into the cinema with your popcorn and treats that makes the whole experience exciting, especially for children. The girls were absolutely delighted.
Our screening was lovely and quiet too, which made it feel even more relaxing. We could settle into our seats, enjoy the film and have a couple of hours together without any distractions.
Sometimes the simplest outings really are the best.
One of Our Favourite Ideas for a Rainy Day in Poole
Living in Dorset, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor family activities. But let's face it, the British weather doesn't always cooperate!
That's why Vue Poole is such a good option to have up your sleeve.
Whether it's pouring with rain during the school holidays, you need an indoor activity at the weekend or you simply fancy doing something a little different after school, a cinema trip is an easy way to entertain the children.
With a choice of family films and screening times throughout the day, you can plan your visit around whatever else you've got going on.
It's also a brilliant option for families with children of different ages, particularly when you can find a film everyone wants to see.
And unlike so many family outings, there's no worrying about the weather, muddy shoes or packing endless supplies!
Not Just for Kids: Vue Is Going on My Date Night List
One thing I hadn't really appreciated before our visit was just how much Vue could appeal to adults too.
In fact, I came away thinking that I definitely need to bring my husband here for a date night.
There's a lovely bar area, and being able to enjoy a glass of wine or another alcoholic drink during your film makes the experience feel that little bit more special.
Combine that with the big reclining seats and plenty of personal space, and you've got a really enjoyable alternative to the usual dinner out.
I'd happily come back for an evening screening, a glass of wine and a couple of hours switching off.
It's definitely earned a place on our date night list.
Free Parking at Tower Park, Poole
Another huge bonus of visiting Vue Poole is its location at Tower Park.
There's free parking at the leisure complex, which is always a welcome benefit when you're heading out with the family.
Tower Park is also home to a great selection of restaurants and other entertainment venues, so you can easily make more of your visit.
You could enjoy lunch or dinner before your film, combine the cinema with another family activity or simply pop in for a couple of hours.
It's one of those places where you can plan a whole day out without having to travel between different locations.
Is Vue Poole Worth It?
For us, absolutely.
I went along expecting a lovely afternoon with my daughters, but I hadn't anticipated quite how much I'd enjoy the cinema experience myself.
The comfortable reclining seats, spacious surroundings, treats and relaxed atmosphere made it feel like a proper little occasion rather than just another activity to keep the children occupied.
The girls were so happy, and I came away feeling like we'd had some really lovely quality time together.
It's easy to forget how much fun a simple cinema trip can be, particularly when you're juggling work, school and busy family schedules.
So whether you're searching for things to do in Poole when it's raining, looking for school holiday activities in Dorset or fancy a cinema date night with a little extra comfort, Vue Poole is well worth adding to your list.
And next time? I think I'll be leaving the children at home and bringing my husband!
