About: The Noisy Lobster, a family-run restaurant, located on Avon beach, Mudeford, is a firm favourite amongst locals and visitors. Located right on the beach with incredible views of Mudeford Bay and the Isle of Wight.

Although famous for locally sourced, fresh seafood, their Sunday roast is an experience not to be missed. Every Sunday they have a variety of delicious roasts on the specials menu, all packed full of flavour using fresh, seasonal produce.

Most recently Sunday roast specials have included traditional roast sirloin of beef, slow roasted pork belly, all served with yorkshire puddings, duck fat roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, braised red cabbage, truffle cauliflower cheese and red wine jus. Desserts including Rum Baba and the Tipsy Affogato are a MUST too. 

There are plenty of other options for vegan/vegetarians/pescatarians with dishes such as the  Duchess Fish Pie, Vegan ‘Fish’ & Chips and Truffled Mushroom Rosti.

The Noisy Lobster offers a fantastically well-curated wine list and classic cocktails with a twist such as a Mermaid’s Negroni, a Maple Old Fashioned and a Lemon Meringue Pie-Tini.

Useful things to know: Award-winning, reservations advised, Disabled Access, (Blue Room and Upper Terrace have no disabled access- call to arrange),  Private Dining, Families and Children Welcome. Swimwear is not allowed in the restaurant. 

Reservations are advised and are all inside the restaurant and not on the beach-fronted terrace (requests can be made but are not guaranteed). The lower terrace is walk-in only on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Jetty

For the best Sunday lunch in Mudeford, a visit to the multi-award-winning restaurant, The Jetty, is essential. Located on the water's edge, in Christchurch's Harbour Hotel & Spa, The Jetty offers a delicious three-course Sunday Lunch and a fine dining experience not to be forgotten. 

Although The Jetty specialises in locally-caught seafood, multi-award-winning Chef, Alex Aitken, has created a sensational Sunday roast menu (sample menu) using only seasonal ingredients from the New Forest and local sustainable seafood..

Sunday lunch is served from 12 noon to 8.00pm. Expect starters like Alex’s Twice Bake Cheese Soufflé, Beef Tataki and Crab Tartare. For mains: Overnight Roasted Aged Sirloin of Beef or a Trio of Pork, Slow roast pork belly, roast tenderloin, black pudding hash all served traditional roast garnish (dreamy light yorkshire puddings and perfect crispy roast potatoes with homemade gravy… 

The Jetty not only offers a huge selection of seafood with dishes such as Lemon Sole and Monkfish & Prawn Curry but also has a stand-alone Vegan/Vegetarian menu.

Classic dessert options include: Apple & Winter Berries Crumble Tart and a selection of Local Cheeses with Fudges Biscuits.

Advice on excellent wine pairing choices from an extensive cellar, expertly mixed cocktails, and tasting flights of cognac, grappa, and Armagnac on offer too.

FYI -  Christchurch's Harbour Hotel & Spa also has another fabulous restaurant, Upper Deck, that is worth looking at for Sunday lunch. Upper Deck, another destination restaurant, is also under the steady stewardship of Alex Aitken and offers alfresco casual dining.

Reasonably priced Sunday lunch menu includes: Roast Rump of Beef, Roast Loin of Pork
Roasted Chicken Breast, all served with Roast Potatoes, Roasted Carrots and Parsnips, Cauliflower Cheese, Yorkshire Pudding, a Side of Vegetables, and Homemade Gravy.

Vegetarian/Vegan options are available, along with any Starters, such as Twice Baked Émmental Cheese Soufflé & Homemade Coarse Terrine, or Desserts like Orange Crème Brulée & Nougat Iced Parfait from the main menu, as well as a classic European wine list to choose from.

About: If you are after an excellent homemade traditional Sunday pub roast, The Nelson Tavern, in Mudeford, is the place to go. Serving top-notch, no-nonsense, traditional British roast dinners in a gastro setting. Renowned for a warm, friendly atmosphere, huge servings, and a large range of real ales, it’s the perfect atmosphere and location for a Sunday lunch with the family.

Sunday lunch is served from 12pm -6pm and booking ahead is advised as roasts here are very popular.

Choose from - Slow Roast Dorset Pork Belly with tonnes of crispy crackling and spiced apple and ale chutney, Local Mid Rare Topside of Beef with huge Yorkshire Puddings, and more… As all homemade and fresh, offerings can change from time to time. Roast Rack of Lamb or Whole Roasted Chicken has been known to feature too. All the meat is free-range and supplied by Neal and Son Butchers.

For the veggie/vegan amongst us, a Homemade Nut Roast with Yorkshire and endless (ve/vg) gravy are on offer.

Lashings of lovely seasonal veggies to accompany the roasts, huge portions, crispy roasties, and The Nelson’s ‘famous gravy’...
