REVIEW: A Magical Family Day Out at Wimborne Model Town

Finding a day out that keeps three generations happy isn’t always easy… but Wimborne Model Town absolutely delivered for us.

We visited during the Easter holidays with our two girls (aged 8 and 5), my husband, and my Mum and Dad - and it was such a special day for all of us.

What made it perfect from the start was how easy it is to access. There’s a car park directly opposite, and once you’re in, everything is compact and easy to walk around - ideal if, like us, you’re planning something that’s enjoyable without being too physically demanding for little ones or older family members. There’s plenty of seating throughout too, which made it really comfortable for my parents to take their time and enjoy it.

The model town itself is just enchanting. Seeing Wimborne recreated in miniature - complete with the beautiful Minster - completely captured the kids’ imagination, while my parents loved the nostalgic, historical element of seeing the town as it would have been in the 1950s. It really is one of those rare places that genuinely appeals to all ages.

We visited during Easter, and the trail activity was a brilliant touch. The girls loved exploring every corner to find clues and uncover the hidden word - it kept them engaged the whole way round and added a real sense of adventure.

There’s so much to discover beyond the model village too. From the model railway and dolls’ houses to the charming Wareham Bears and the recreated 1950s school and shops - every little detail gives you something new to enjoy.

One of my favourite moments was in the play area - my 5-year-old and I spent ages doing role play in the little pretend shops, and it’s one of those simple, lovely memories that will really stick with me.

There’s also a café on site serving drinks, cakes, and light lunches if you want to stay put, but we loved that it’s right in the heart of Wimborne, so we could wander into town afterwards for a browse and a bite to eat.
