Celebrity chef Mark Hix returns to Lyme Regis with intimate pop-up

Mark Hix is cooking in Lyme Regis again.
The acclaimed west Dorset chef opened his pop-up restaurant, Mark's, in May, taking up the residency at The Pop Up Kitchen at 32A Broad Street.

It is a small, intimate set-up, around 18 covers a sitting, with the chef personally cooking for guests across two sittings a night, focusing on local produce, some of it foraged himself.

Hix MBE was born and raised in West Bay and studied at Weymouth College before making his name in London at The Ivy and Le Caprice, and later running his own HIX restaurant group. He opened HIX Oyster & Fish House in Lister Gardens, Lyme Regis in 2008; it continued as The Oyster & Fish House until closing for good in December 2024.

Open at least two evenings a week, Mark's serves a simple set menu that changes nightly and stays seasonal year-round, built around local and foraged produce. Expect steak nights with Devon Red rib of beef to share, herb-fed chicken nights, and seafood that leans into Lyme Bay through the warmer months, lobster included, alongside familiar touches like prawn cocktail and chocolate mousse. Hix is joined front of house by his friend Nick Cadwell, a familiar face from his foraging videos on social media, which he says makes the whole thing feel even more personal.

The Pop Up Kitchen, owned by Alethea Mcloughlin, has hosted a number of the town's restaurateurs over the years and supported many local businesses. Later in the year, Hix plans to bring back Mark's Bar with cocktail evenings, still seated but built around drinks and small plates rather than a full meal.

The pop-up is running until at least the end of the year, with sittings at 5.30pm and 8pm, and bookings can be made online.
