South Deep Poole

REVIEW: South Deep Summer Menu

With stunning sunset views of Poole Harbour, a laid-back atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional food, South Deep has long been a favourite of ours.

Summer is well and truly upon us, and with date nights being few and far between, we wanted to make the most of the weather and miss the summer holiday traffic, so we thought we'd sail across from Hamworthy. Alas, this didn't go to plan as the wind completely dropped and we ended up getting towed some of the way by a friendly passer by - but it was all good fun and luckily the staff at South Deep are so friendly and chilled, they didn't mind us being a bit late for our table booking.

Getting across to South Deep on the water is super easy - they are happy for you to moor up there, so if the weather and tides are playing ball, it's a really nice way to add to your experience. You can even paddleboard across if you fancy working up an appetite!

After we finally arrived, we ordered Aperol's from the fantastic outdoor bar and were seated to our table which was in prime position to enjoy the spectacular sunset we were treated to - and the summer tunes being played on the decks by DJ John! We felt like we were on holiday!

The menus swiftly arrived, and everything on the menu jumped out at us! It's clearly been thoughtfully created, there's not too much choice with a fantastic mix of favourite seafood dishes including Crab Linguine, Fish and Chips and Mussels, with some fun creations - including the fantastic Crayfish Mac and Cheese which my husband ordered, plus plenty of veggie, vegan, and meat dishes if you're not in the mood for fish.

You order at the bar which we really enjoyed as it added to the laid-back atmosphere and meant we could take our time.

I selected the Lemon Sole from the specials board which was beautifully cooked and seasoned and accompanied with a generous salad and fries - perfect combination!

My husband had the Crayfish Mac and Cheese, which sounds out there, but was delicious. The combination of the crayfish tails goes perfectly with the mac and cheese and was accompanied by ciabatta garlic bread.

For the sake of the review (of course), we found room to share a desert; highly recommend the Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut Delice - the rich and indulgent chocolate was complimented superbly with the crunch and savoury notes of the hazelnut base.

The team at South Deep have really managed to create something quite rare here; top quality food in a unique and special setting with a relaxed atmosphere makes you feel like you've been on a mini holiday.

We loved it so much, we've booked for lunch next weekend already.

Thank you to all the team at South Deep for a truly memorable evening.
