We recommend

We were invited along to review the recently opened Lush Hair Lab on Poole Quay with my two daughters, aged eight and five, and from the moment we arrived, it felt more like stepping into a luxury wellness space than a traditional hair salon. The atmosphere is relaxed, beautifully designed and instantly calming, staying true to everything Lush is known for.
The experience began with a gentle consultation, where the team chatted to the girls about their hair and explained exactly what would happen. They were then invited over to the botanical bar, which they absolutely loved.
Here, they chose natural botanicals such as lavender and chamomile to create their own personalised hair wraps. Being involved in this process made them feel really special, and it was lovely to see how carefully everything was explained in a child-friendly way.
This is where Lush Hair Lab really stands out. Instead of sitting upright at a sink, the girls were laid onto comfortable spa beds and tucked under weighted blankets. Their hair was washed using steam and Lush products, creating a warm, soothing and incredibly relaxing experience.
What followed was essentially a 20-minute head and scalp massage, with the team talking the girls through the products being used and how they help their hair and scalp. It felt calm, unhurried and genuinely spa-like, something I’ve never experienced for children before.
While the girls relaxed (they looked like they were about to fall sleep!), I was also looked after with a cup of tea and a biscuit. The girls were treated to hot chocolates and biscuits after their wash, which was such a thoughtful touch and really added to the overall experience.
After the hair spa treatment, the girls moved on to their haircuts. My eight-year-old chose to have her hair dried smooth and straightened, while my five-year-old, who has naturally curly hair, had her curls gently styled and enhanced.
There was no rushing at any stage. The team took real care, making sure they felt comfortable, listened to and relaxed throughout. The end result was two very happy girls who felt pampered, calm and incredibly proud of their hair.
This experience would be perfect for:
A special birthday treat
Parents who prefer natural, gentle, chemical-free products for their children’s hair and scalp
A memorable first or milestone haircut
A mother-and-daughter day out
A Mother’s Day gift or voucher
Anyone wanting proper time out while having their hair done
It would also be ideal for children who find traditional salons overwhelming, as the entire experience is sensory-led, calm and unpressured.
Located on Poole Quay, Lush Hair Lab is perfectly placed for combining with a walk along the harbour, lunch nearby or a relaxed family day out.
There are also plenty of Lush hair products available to buy on-site, I treated myself to a sea salt spray, and if you want to make a proper day of it, the Hair Lab is just around the corner from the main Lush shop.
This is not just a haircut. It’s a beautifully thought-out experience that gives children genuine time to relax while parents can enjoy a moment of calm too. If you’re looking for something truly special, Lush Hair Lab is well worth discovering.
