New TV Drama to Be Filmed in Dorset

Lights, camera, Dorset! An exciting new high-end TV drama is set to begin filming in the county during spring and summer 2026, with award-winning production company Red Planet Pictures bringing their next big project to the region.

Red Planet Pictures, the team behind hit series such as Death in Paradise, Our House, and Sanditon, are working closely with Dorset Council to bring the production to life, and they’re calling on local talent to get involved.

Opportunities for Dorset Film Crew

Red Planet Pictures are looking for local crew from Dorset for the HETV Drama Series. Filming locations are yet to be confirmed but are likely to be in central and west Dorset. They are keen to hear from anyone within that radius, across all departments and grades.

Dorset on the Big Screen

This latest announcement adds to Dorset’s growing reputation as a filming hotspot. Over the years, the county has played host to a variety of well-loved productions.

• Netflix favourite Heartstopper filmed in Lyme Regis.
• ITV’s A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story used Dorchester Prison as a key location.
• Blockbusters including Dunkirk, World War Z, Nanny McPhee and Wonka have all made the most of Dorset’s dramatic scenery.
• The Star Wars spin-off Andor was partly shot at Winspit Quarry near Worth Matravers.
• The cult Hammer Horror classic The Damned (1961) was filmed in Weymouth and Portland, bringing actors Oliver Reed and Shirley Anne Field to the coast.
• The much-loved ITV drama Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, made West Dorset famous worldwide.

With its rolling landscapes, historic towns, and breathtaking Jurassic Coast, Dorset is no stranger to the silver screen. The arrival of a major new TV drama is expected not only to showcase the county’s beauty to new audiences, but also to provide opportunities for local professionals within the film and creative industries.
