The Backyard 12 with Swanage Bay Sauna

A Backyard Ultra is the ultimate endurance event for testing your limits. The race format has taken the US by storm, and now the team behind Swanage Bay Sauna (SBS) are bringing it to the Purbecks, our own ‘Backyard’.

The Backyard 12 SBS Edition will see participants pushing themselves from sunrise to sunset. Can you challenge yourself to complete all 12 laps of the 4.167 mile trail?  Every hour, on the hour, runners will gather at the starting carrell in Days Park, Swanage before they hear the Backyard bell ring.

The Purbecks will be your spectacular backdrop, with breath-taking views along the Jurassic Coast for company, including a challenging ascent up the ridgeway towards the iconic Old Harry’s Rocks.

The SBS Beyond Limits team will aim to make your day an unforgettable experience, from marshals, medals and sports massage.  BUT only you can provide the determination to go the distance. Speed is not your friend here. Instead, the fortitude to go ‘Just One More’ yard will see you conquer our Backyard 12 .

The beauty of Backyard? It’s a unique challenge.  It fosters camaraderie amongst participants and spectators. The yards you complete and the pace you travel is yours to determine. We guarantee that you will go above and beyond your limits.  You might find, with the electric atmosphere on the day, you can do more than you think.

You can even take on the challenge as a team of either 2 (up to 6 yards each) or 3 (up to 4 yards each).  Bring on the far out team names!! Please be aware these need to be continuous alternate yards in order to not DNF.

Spectators will play their part too, cheering everyone on from the bustling Event Village while enjoying motivating music , great coffee and  pastries from Carve Coffee, ice-cream from Purbeck Ice Cream and delicious locally sourced food from the Burnt Toast (vegetarian and vegan options will be available).
