Ashley Cross has no shortage of places to eat and drink, but DRGNFLY has been one of its most talked-about for years. The Pan-Asian restaurant sits on Bournemouth Road, in a building that's seen a few lives before this one, and it's built a loyal following since it opened.
Step inside and the transformation is the first thing you notice. A cherry blossom tree runs through the dining room, lit by ambient lanterns, the kind of setting the venue describes as an elegant escape from the street outside. It's the sort of room that photographs well, which helps explain why so much of its reputation has travelled on Instagram.
The food moves across Japan, China and the wider continent: gyoza, tempura, bao, skewers, curries and noodles, with sushi as the clear headline act. There's a dedicated sushi menu alongside the main à la carte, built around small plates designed for sharing rather than solo eating.
Drinks get equal billing. The bar runs a deep cocktail list built around classic spirits reworked with Asian-inspired ingredients, alongside a full wine list for anyone who wants to keep things simpler.
The newest addition is The Midnight Club, DRGNFLY's late-night turn for Friday and Saturday nights. From 10pm to 2am, the restaurant becomes a boutique bar with a tapas-style sushi menu, paired drinks and DJ sets, styled on the feel of a private Soho club night, brought to Poole.
DRGNFLY also caters for bigger groups, runs a gift voucher scheme, and offers seasonal pre-order boxes and platters for anyone who wants the experience at home.
It's open every evening except Tuesday, from 5.30pm.
