Diverse Abilities Support Worker takes leap of faith for families

A dedicated member of staff at Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity has celebrated her first year with the charity by taking on a 15,000ft skydive, raising more than £600 to support children and adults with disabilities.

Ali Hargreaves joined Diverse Abilities a year ago as a Lead Support Worker within the charity’s Shapes and Transitions service, which provides specialist care and support for children and young people with profound disabilities up to the age of 30, both at home and in the community.

One parent supported by the service said: "Having the carers visit us has taken the stress out of bedtimes. My husband and I love hearing him laugh and have fun while we take a breath and enjoy a much-needed sit down at the end of a busy day."

Looking back on her first year with the charity, Ali said she has enjoyed building relationships with the children and young adults she supports – especially celebrating their achievements and milestones.

Ali commented: "What a surreal but amazing experience! I jumped from 15,000ft, freefalling at 125mph for 60 seconds before my parachute opened. Then it was a peaceful seven-minute descent before landing. My challenge only lasted 60 seconds, but for the children and young people we support, and their families, their challenges are lifelong."

Thanks to her courage and determinations, Ali has raised an incredible £638 for Diverse Abilities, helping the charity continue to provide vital support services across Dorset.
