First Look: Inside the Exclusive Launch of The Sunray, Osmington
Last night, we were invited to one of Dorset’s most anticipated new openings - an exclusive, invite-only preview of The Sunray in Osmington.

And it’s safe to say… this is not just a reopening. It’s a complete reimagining.
A Historic Dorset Landmark, Reborn
Set in the heart of Osmington, just moments from the Jurassic Coast, The Sunray has long been part of Dorset’s story — originally opening in 1933 and once a well-known meeting place for locals and travellers alike.
Now, after a multi-million-pound restoration, it’s been brought back to life as a premium, food-led pub with boutique holiday cottages, blending heritage with modern luxury.
The launch night gave guests an exclusive first glimpse of this transformation… and it didn’t disappoint.
An Invite-Only Evening to Remember
From the moment we arrived, the tone was set.
Guests were welcomed with drinks on arrival, creating a relaxed, sociable atmosphere as people gathered to explore the space for the very first time. Beautifully presented canapés circulated throughout the evening - offering a preview of the quality and style we can expect from the full food offering.
There was a real buzz in the air - a mix of local business owners, creatives and familiar Dorset faces, all keen to experience what The Sunray has become.
Speaking on the night, Andy Lennox, owner of The Sunray, said: “It’s been amazing - we’ve had over 400 people through the door already and everyone’s been loving it. We started with a special event for the villagers, so it’s been great to welcome the local community first, and now this is our main launch.”
He added: “The canapés are flowing, we’ve got more food coming out shortly, and we’re ready to go - opening tomorrow from 8:30am for breakfast and then right through the day. With the bank holiday weekend ahead, it’s perfect timing.”
First Impressions: Thoughtful, Elevated, Effortless
Stepping inside, it’s clear just how much care has gone into the restoration.
The interiors strike that perfect balance between rustic character and contemporary comfort, staying true to the building’s history while introducing a more refined, modern feel.
Outside, the setting is just as impressive - surrounded by rolling Dorset countryside and just minutes from the coast, it already feels like a destination in its own right.
It’s the kind of place where you can imagine:
- Long, relaxed lunches after a coastal walk
- Evening drinks as the sun sets over the hills
- Weekend stays that turn into something longer
More Than Just a Pub
What makes The Sunray stand out is that it’s not just somewhere to eat and drink.
Alongside the pub, the site now includes 14 boutique-style holiday cottages, designed to offer a peaceful, high-end coastal escape.
This combination of hospitality, dining and accommodation creates something quite unique for Dorset - a place to gather, stay and truly switch off.
What to Expect
Officially opening this spring, The Sunray is set to become one of Dorset’s standout destinations.
Expect:
- Seasonal menus celebrating local Dorset produce
- A premium yet relaxed dining experience
- Beautifully designed spaces inside and out
- A strong focus on atmosphere, quality and service
And if the launch night is anything to go by… it’s going to be busy.
The Verdict
Exclusive, beautifully executed, and full of promise - The Sunray is one to watch.
This was just a sneak peek, but it’s already clear that this reimagined Dorset landmark is set to make a big impact.
We’ll definitely be back for the full experience very soon.
