The Treehouse gardens open to public for National Open Garden Scheme

Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability Charity is delighted to announce that it will be opening the gates to the Sensory Garden and Nature Nook at The Treehouse as part of the National Garden Scheme on Wednesday 17th June, from 10am-4pm.

Located in Hurn, the gardens at The Treehouse are fully accessible, and have been specially designed to engage all the senses, enabling people of all abilities to enjoy and explore nature. The garden is designed to delight every sense, with striking and colourful flowers, soft leaves and grasses, edible herbs, rustling leaves, beautiful scented plants and the sound of water. Along the winding path are musical instruments, whilst in the outdoor learning Nature Nook visitors will discover a wishing tree, mud kitchen, fire pit, story-telling throne and produce grown by children we support.

The sensory garden and nature nook has been specifically designed for the children, adults and families that the charity supports, meaning they can benefit from:

  • Mental Health & Relaxation - providing calming, therapeutic environment that lowers stress and anxiety levels
  • Stimulation & Engagement - to safely explore the garden
  • Cognitive & Memory Benefits - engaging with different textures, scents and colours
  • Social Interaction - these spaces encourage social engagement, offering a shared space for families and the people supported by the charity.
  • Education Opportunities - the sensory garden and nature nook are living classrooms and spaces for exploration, imagination and adventure

The open garden day provides a rare opportunity for the public to experience a space that plays a vital role in supporting children and adults with disabilities across Dorset. As well as enjoying the garden itself, visitors will be able to relax with tea or coffee and cake, available throughout the day.

Tickets will be available on the day, costing £5 for adults and free entry for children.
